This season WYC's roster is now open for members to pick their own duty dates, swap duties and receive automated reminders.
As we did last season, WYC has taken out a subscription to FindMyShift which is a service that will allow the management of our roster on line. FindMyShift will enable members to pick the duty dates that best suit them. Once the roster is set up FindMyShift will automatically send reminders of upcoming duties by e-mail and SMS. From FindMyShift members can contact other members to arrange a duty swap with just a couple of mouse clicks.
Getting Started
An e-mail will be sent to all members not on on last year's roster. This will include a link to the roster, your log-in details (your e-mail address) and instructions on setting a password.
For members who have been on the roster in previous seasons, your log-in details are the same.
If you have forgotten your log-in details, or do not receive an e-mail, please contact the administrator (see contact details below) so that we can check that you are on the roster and that we have all your contact details.
Once you log-in to FindMyShift you click on 'WYC Duty Roster' and you will see a calendar with the duty roles overlaid on a grid. Find the date and the duty you would like to take and right click on that cell. From the menu that pops up, select the duty that you wish to request. e.g. to be rostered on for Start Boat Crew duty on November 1, scroll right until you see November 1 and right click in the 5th cell under that date. Then click on 'Start Boat Crew' from the pop up menu and your name will appear in the cell.
How Many Duties Should I Take?
All active sailing members, and parents of junior active sailing members, are expected to perform 2 duties over the season. Experienced members, or members wishing to gain some more experience may wish to nominate for 3 duties (that will be much appreciated).
Duties will be allocated on a first in basis. Members that haven't nominated for a duty by October 15th will be allocated duties to fill the roster.
What do I need to do when I'm on duty?
Descriptions of Duty Officer, Sailing Officer and Race Box roles can be found on the Downloads page of the website. To nominate for Rescue Boat Skipper you obviously need a power boat licence. The Swimmer should be prepared to sail a boat to shore if the sailor is in distress so the role requires some sailing skill. Otherwise, if you are keen to take a duty role that you haven't done before then just let the administrator know and we will arrange training - ideally on the morning of Opening Day in October.
